Hedione
Hedione
Translucent and effervescent, this aromatic is popular in modern perfumery due to its ability to enhance the perception of aroma compositions. Its profile is light, floral, and green jasmine. It is diffusive, and can serve as a major structural component of many formulas.
- Blends best with florals and citrus
- An important structural material.
- Essential part of the grojman accord; IES, Galaxolide, Hediome, and Methyl Ionone Gamma
Hedione, its generic name Dihydrojasmonate, was first synthesized in the '60s by Firmenich in search of a cheaper alternative to jasmine absolute. It gained prominence early on through a number of fragrances, the most famous being Eau Sauvage by Dior. It brings in the bright and fresh side of jasmine and adds a sense of diffusion and transparency to compositions.
'Hedone' in Greek means pleasure, and some studies have even suggested that Hedione can stimulate regions in the brain related to pleasure and emotion! These studies tend to have been done on very small groups of people however, bringing into question the statistical significance of the finding. Interesting nonetheless.
